Tonight’s Full Moon is the strongest super moon of the year, meaning that it is closer in proximity to the earth that it will get in 2020. This moon comes in the midst of a big upheaval we are going through in our collective consciousness, as evidenced by the world’s events. In order to understand the energetic influence of this particular full moon, we need to look at the aspects that the planets are making right now. The strongest aspect that this full moon makes is to the conjunction between Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn that has been in the heavens since the new moon on March 24th.

When most people think about moving their body, they inevitably think about working out, or exercising. That is also how most people think about Yoga in the West, they associate it with fitness, becoming more flexible, stronger. There are no shortages of videos promoting the benefits of Yoga as a workout, as a way to destress and maybe find some relaxation at the end of the class lying down for a few minutes on the mat. This approach to yoga while a good start, is one-dimensional and is only the tip of the iceberg.

All our relationships are a reflection of our relationship with ourselves. Through practicing yoga, we get to know ourselves on a deeper level. There is a saying that goes ‘how you do one thing is how you do everything’. When we are on the mat, it is an exploration not just of our bodies, but also of how we tend to treat ourselves and what our default ways of being are. For example, if during asana practice, we find ourselves getting impatient with ourselves or we find that there is a strong inner critic judging our practice, chances are that this critic exists in other areas of our lives as well. And if we are critical of ourselves, it will in some form or another, spill over into our relationships.

Human relationships are complex and challenging and beautiful, and a playground for us to learn about ourselves and who we are. Our intimate relationships reflect back to us our own patterns, thought processes and ways of being. In order to achieve harmony within a relationship, we need to learn to understand the way our partner sees and experiences the world.

Tonight at 12:13am we have an annular or ‘ring of fire’ solar eclipse. This occurs when the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun, but the isn’t able to cover it completely, leaving a ring of light around the eclipsed Sun. Solar eclipses are always a powerful energetic time bringing to light things that usually remain in the shadows. Astrologically, this particular solar eclipse has a vibrant quality to it due to the planetary alignments it makes.

Tonight is the longest night of 2019, it is winter solstice which means that at 11:19pm tonight, the sun officially enters Capricorn. It is a night of introspection and meditation. A night when we are given an opportunity to look at what lies in the dark crevices of our inner world.
