The Moon is an emotional planetary archetype. It’s the deeper aspect of us, the feminine, more subconscious side of us that we are not always aware of. It doesn’t particularly feel at home in the sign of Aquarius, which is a masculine, eccentric and mental air sign. There is a natural feeling of agitation when the moon is in Aquarius, and with tonight’s full moon, it’s even more high strung because this full moon squares, i.e. makes a tense aspect to the planet Uranus (which actually rules Aquarius). Uranus is the archetype of the wild card in astrology. The ruler of innovation, technology and the iconoclastic mindset. This full moon has quite a strong Uranian flavor to it, which means expect the unexpected.

Happy Summer Solstice friends! The solstice goes exact today at 5:44pm EDT, ringing in the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere as we rejoice in the beginning of summer. The ancients believed that the solstice was a time when the veils between the worlds thinned and this year we also have a solar eclipse on the night of the solstice, which happens about every 40 years or so, and adds a potent punch to this already magical time.

Tonight we have the new moon in Gemini, adding to the already active planetary alignments for the month. With four planets retrograde including Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto, this normally light-hearted moon is transformed into a far more inner-moving energy than you would expect from the sign of the Twins. That is the nature of retrograde planets in general, they reveal the ‘other side’ of our reality by bringing to the surface what is normally hidden from view.

We are almost at the mid-point of 2020, and what a karmic year this has been! Along with May flowers, this month brings several pivotal astrological planetary alignments. To begin with, tomorrow morning we have the full moon in Scorpio (exact at 6:45am). This full moon is a welcome change to the other moon cycles we have had so far, because even though it’s in intense Scorpio, it sings a sweet melody with the aspects it makes to other planetary bodies during this time. This moon is a supermoon, meaning that it’s very close to the earth and will exert its energetic influences strongly.

Tomorrow night there is a new moon in Taurus. Usually when the moon passes through the sign of the Bull, it’s considered an auspicious time. First of all, the moon likes to be in Taurus, it’s exalted there, this is because earthy Taurus is said to emphasize all the best lunar qualities — fertility, nurturing, grounding. The moon, which is a watery planet, feeds the earthiness of Taurus and from there luscious new things can grow. Through the rulership of Venus over Taurus, there is also an emphasis on balance and harmony. So by itself, this Moon has the ripeness of fertility through which life is created.

Tonight’s Full Moon is the strongest super moon of the year, meaning that it is closer in proximity to the earth that it will get in 2020. This moon comes in the midst of a big upheaval we are going through in our collective consciousness, as evidenced by the world’s events. In order to understand the energetic influence of this particular full moon, we need to look at the aspects that the planets are making right now. The strongest aspect that this full moon makes is to the conjunction between Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn that has been in the heavens since the new moon on March 24th.
